Are You A Mosquito Magnet?
With summer approaching, there are lots of fun outdoor activities to take part in. However, if you are one of those people who gets eaten alive by mosquitos the second you walk outside, you’re not alone!
For those who happen to be mosquito magnets, their bites may seem to prefer them over other people and the experience can be capricious, irritating and even painful. Not to mention, mosquitoes are known transmitters of some pretty serious diseases. Even I had once got the Ross River Virus from a mosquito bite and trust me it was not cool and it did affected my health in some sense.
Knowing why mosquitoes prefer some people over others can really help. And so here are some tips that will help you not only keep those pesky mosquitoes away, but also improve your quality of life!
Cholesterol
Believe it or not, cholesterol attracts mosquitoes. But controlling your cholesterol is not only good news for your health, it may work for you when it comes to mosquitoes.
Steroids
A heads-up for those wanting to bulk up: be careful with steroids They may aid in muscle building, but they can also make you more attractive to mosquitoes. Of course, if you’re taking medically prescribed steroids, that is a different thing altogether, but just be aware of this side effect.
Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
Did you know mosquitoes can smell carbon dioxide from 50m away? Because adults produce more CO2 just by breathing than kids, you tend to be more of a target. Pregnant women are also more attractive to mosquitoes due to elevated CO2 levels during pregnancy.
Your Blood Type
Your blood type is something you can’t change, and it turns out you may be more delicious to mosquitoes if your blood type is O.
Beer
Seems mosquitoes also love a coldie like us Aussies! Evidence suggests mosquito activity rises as much as 15% on beer. Why they do is not clearly understood by scientists, but it could be linked with the skin odour changes that accompany beer drinking.
Stay safe from those nasty mosquitoes, and fast live your summer without getting caught on them!
