Drywood Termite Pest Control Services
Drywood termites or subterranean termites may assault residences and places of business. The crucial difference is where they reside. Subterranean and Formosan termites both dwell beneath the soil. But drywood termites are the ones that live inside the wood they consume. It’s the reason why our termite control experts need to first identify which kind are in your home before any treatment takes place.
Where Drywood Termites Come From
here are several species of drywood termites. Some come from Asia, as in India, Thailand, Bangladesh. Some others are indigenous to Australia. The most prevalent type was identified in the 1850s in Jamaica. These termites then spread through the West Indies and traveled to North America on wooden ships. Prior to the early 1900s, they were first documented in the Florida Keys. Today, they thrive in the warm climate of the Southern states including South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and, yes, Texas lit by the broiling sun.
How Drywood Termites Behave
Drywood termites consume and nest within solid wood. They favor both hardwood and softwood. This refers to construction wood used in houses and offices. They also don’t have to burrow in tunnels to get to their food, like subterranean termites do. They live right inside it. They can even construct more than one in the same region.
Because they are small, they can infest:
Furniture
Cabinets
Headboards
Picture frames
Sometimes, they may also feed on paper or cardboard.
These termites grow slowly. A complete colony can take more than five years to establish. The overwhelming majority have only a few thousand termites. Subterranean termites reproduce more quickly and may number in millions. But still, drywood termites can do a tremendous amount of damage, and they need to be eliminated quickly.
Signs of Drywood Termite Infestation
Drywood termites aren’t always easy to identify. Their damage appears different from that caused by other termites. Here are signs to watch for:
Small heaps of droppings (fecal)
With the wings to the floor or windowsills
Paint that bubbles or peels
Walls that sound hollow when rapped
When you spot any of these, move in quickly.
