PESTS THAT MAY BE BUGGING YOUR PETS
This is not just for your household pets, but we know you care about your furry friends, so we wanted to give you some helpful hints about some of the most common pests that might pester them.
Ticks
Ticks can be a nuisance, so removing them quickly as soon as you notice one is important. They can also transmit some pretty nasty diseases, like Lyme disease, which can infect humans. And if a tick remains on your pet too long, it could cause tick paralysis. So, keep an eye out!
Fleas
Bites can be pretty itchy and lead to allergic reactions. If your pet appears lethargic or weak, it might be anaemia, which can be serious. If you see something unusual, don’t be afraid to reach out to your vet! Fleas can even hitchhike to a new host with unwelcome houseguests such as tapeworms, so watch for weight loss or changes in appetite.” Your veterinarian is your best friend in this situation!
Spiders
Spider bites know, not so super common, but still a good life to be aware! If you suspect your dog has been bitten, taking it to your local vet is the wise choice to make particularly if there’s slight redness, swelling or other unusual behaviors like vomiting or lethargy.
Bees & Wasps
Pets show different reactions to stings from bees or wasps. Some might only become slightly swollen and others might have a serious reaction. Monitor them for symptoms like swelling around the neck or head, weakness, or abnormal behavior. If you see something worrisome, it’s better to check with your vet immediately.
Bed Bugs
While bed bugs are definitely a nuisance, the good news is that they do not transmit disease to pets. If you suspect that you have bed bugs at home, just be sure to inspect your pet’s bedding as well. They might be hiding there!
Mosquitoes
Mosquito bites are pretty normal but sometimes lead to severe problems like Heartworm disease which is bad news for our furry friends. Look for signs such as lethargy, coughing or any disorientation. If you find anything unusual, contact your vet.
We hope you find this useful in keeping your pets happy and healthy! Keep in mind that even a small amount of caution can protect your furry friends from getting a visit from these pests.
